I am the co-founder of Maxey Family Legacy Ministries, my beautiful wife, Andrea, and I started this ministry after a conversation with Pastor John Lutaaya from the Namutumba District of Uganda about the need for families in Uganda needing to learn and follow Godly family principles.
I am retired from the fire department where was a firefighter/paramedic for 26 years, I retired in 2013. 2013 was when I made my first trip to Uganda when I led six others to go build two schools in the Namutumba District. That is when God began working on my heart to reach out to the people there. While I was there I was invited to preach during the Sunday service. I preached on the family and being a Godly husband and father. unbeknownst to me that was the seed that led to Maxey Family Legacy Ministries.
Besides running the ministry with Andrea, I also volunteer as the leader of “Just For Guys” ministry at our local pregnancy resource center. I serve as an elder at our home church, Potomac Believers Fellowship where we have attended for the last 28 years. I have four children and three grandchildren. I have a dog named Grace. In the summer you will find me outside working in my vegetable garden. In the winter, well, I look forward to warmer weather.
I’m Andrea the co-founder here at MFLM with my amazing husband Fred. Let me tell you a little about myself. I’ve lived in Maryland pretty much my entire life. My parents and sister and her family all live here as well as our 4 children.
Fred and I have been married for over 30 years which is still a little hard to believe. Our oldest daughter Bekah is married to Chad and they have Connor, Reagan & Evie. Our next daughter Sarah is dating Brent & they have many adventures riding motorcycles that mostly involve rain. Then we have our only son, Adam. He’s married to Kelsie and they have Mackenzie and Kayleigh. Our youngest daughter Jordan is married to Aaron.
I spent the first years of our marriage learning how to be a wife and mother and evolving into the woman God would have me to be. I home educated our children and did some volunteer work in several different places including the Family Support Network with the fire department my husband worked at, the rugby teams Adam & Jordan played on and Care Net Pregnancy Center.
I’ve served in our church Potomac Believers Fellowship since it began 30 years ago. I’ve worked in the nursery, taught Sunday School, organized the socials and sing on the worship team. When my youngest was finishing up her last year of school she was concerned about what I would do with myself and suggested I needed to find a job. Shortly after that a position opened up at Care Net and I was offered the job as Program Coordinator. I’m getting ready to start my 5th year there and have been very blessed to work in a Christian ministry. In my free time I enjoy my flower gardens, crafting up something, reading or playing with grandkids. Fred and I love history and to travel.
